The break-through sessions go into detail on interesting markets and examples of inspiring entrepreneurship. Knowledge exchange and sharing inspiration and contacts is key. In this interactive session you can talk to insiders about Africa, China, France and Germany – from intercultural facts to establishing the correct contract. The choice is yours as to which of the four break-through sessions you wish to attend.

Robert van Kats is co-founder and Architect Partner of Blok Kats van Veen Architects. B K V V introduced the concept ‘SPATIAL ENERGY DESIGN’ which became a design methodology for architecture and urban design to create buildings and public spaces that are comfortable but with an extreme low energy demand and a high level of self sufficiency. He is co-founder and Chairman of DASUDA. DASUDA is an urban solutions platform that promotes integral urban development in Africa, based on Dutch and local knowledge and collaborative experience, with local consultancies and universities, in working towards urban sustainability.

Jacob van Rijs is an architect, urban planner and one of the founders of the office MVRDV, together with Winy Maas and Nathalie de Vries in 1991. Early projects such as the headquarters for the Public Broadcasting Company VPRO and the WoZoCo housing for elderly in Amsterdam brought MVRDV to the attention of a wide field of clients and reached international acclaim. In 20 years MVRDV has realized architectural and urban designs, master plans and research projects, as for example design software like Function- and Region Mixer.

Bart Hofstede
Bart Hofstede
Dr. Bart Hofstede is currently the Counsellor for Culture at the Dutch embassy in Paris. Formerly, he held positions as cultural attaché at the Dutch embassy in Berlin and as professor of creative industries connected to the media and entertainment program at the polytechnic university INHolland Haarlem. He also was an advisor in the field of cultural and media policy at the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science. Between 2005 and 2009, Hofstede worked on the development of the Netherlands’ creative industries policies, that have now become commonplace. He started his career as a manager and a sociologist of culture and cinema.

Reimar von Meding
Reimar von Meding
Reimar von Meding is chief architect and partner at KAW architects and consultants. The German-born architect decided after studying Architecture at Delft University of Technology to build his career in the Netherlands. His motive is to design for the ‘forgotten group’ – people that don’t have the means or capacity to choose their own living environment. Convinced that ‘good living’ is a basis for a better life, this is his contribution. His specialty is designing social housing of high quality – at low cost.

A: Urban Growth in Africa
Pierre Maas Pierre is Architect Partner at Rothuizen-architecten. The social commitment of Rothuizen-architecten shows in the support of a foundation set up in Mali (West Africa), where activities in the area of research and preservation of cultural heritage in the city of Djenne are facilitated.
Peter Kersten Founder GDN (Ghana Design Network) GDN committed ‘What design can do’ focused on collaborations with UK and Ghana designers in concrete tasks in Ghana
B: Booming India
Ashok Bhalotra Ashok is the former director of Kuiper Compagnons. He is probably the most experienced Dutch architect in India.
Gert Jan Scholte Gert Jan is partner at City Blob architects and expert on the Indian market where he is often present. He is author of the acclaimed book “Learning from Mumbai”
Milou van Mourik Milou is Policy Advisor Urban Planning affairs at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Environment  working with RVO Netherlands. She focuses among others on India she is presenting a current market scan of the Construction Sector in India.
C: Working in Europe. Why France, Belgium?
Walter Drescher Walter Drescher is founder of DNADN. With this initiative he aims to create collaborations that transcend the European borders to help the French get the living environment that they need and deserve. His experience in France showed him that a lot needs to be done.
D: Working successfully with the neighbours: Germany
Ruud Doek Ruud is director of Nedubex. Nedubex is the Dutch-German Construction Export Foundation. Nedubex provides information, advice and networking platform for all sectors which activities in Germany (want) to expand its operations.
Inez Boogaarts Inez is director of the independent Rotterdam Council for Culture. Until 2011 she was cultural attaché at the consulate in Düsseldorf.
Christian Marcel Gaus Christian Gaus is CEO of Gaus & Knödler Architekten, an collaborative office based in Göppingen and Rotterdam; specified on high-quality and demanding architectural solutions.
